Hardwood Flooring Guide
Hardwood flooring has traditionally been one of the most preferred flooring mediums, coveted by decades of homeowners - and some things never change. Constructed for longevity, hardwood flooring is universally appealing and eclectic. Since many varieties of hardwood can be repeatedly refinished, hardwood especially calls out to those who foresee various decorating changes in their future.
Despite all of its amazing attributes, hardwood flooring isn’t for everyone. Hardwood is a considerable investment, so expect to spend a fair amount of time researching your many flooring possibilities. Fortunately, our showroom is positively brimming with various hardwood options, and our expert staff can help guide you towards the best bets for your lifestyle, budget, and décor preferences.
Solid Hardwood vs Engineered Hardwood
While many homeowners have a definite preference for either solid hardwood or engineered hardwood, the reality is that it’s difficult, if not impossible, to tell the difference upon initial glance. Truly, the major differences lie beneath the surface.
With each plank crafted using a sole, solid wood piece, solid hardwood flooring is the more traditional of the two. Long-lasting and stalwart, solid hardwood can be refinished an infinite amount of times, making it a great option for the indecisive. An above-grade or on-grade installation is recommended for solid hardwood.
A newer contender on the flooring market, engineered hardwood is also made entirely from wood, but is crafted in multiple layers for additional stability. While it looks virtually the same to its solid-wood cousin, engineered hardwood is moisture resistant, more affordable, and can be installed below grade. It can also be refinished: albeit, not as often as solid hardwood.
