Tiles come in a wide variety of styles, colours, and patterns meaning the possibilities are endless to create a custom look for your home. Our professional flooring staff can also help you find the right tile and they have an eye for design.
Tiles are made with natural materials which in turn makes them a “green” product. Tiles are not only versatile in design but they are also a long lasting a durable option for your home.
Below, Jim Aaron explains how to choose the perfect tile for your home.
Types of Tile
We have three main tile options to choose: ceramic, porcelain, and stone.
Porcelain and ceramic tile are two of the most popular flooring options. Porcelain and ceramic tile are made from the same materials like sand and clay, but porcelain is classified by its density. Ceramic gained its popularity by being a light weight and relatively inexpensive flooring option. Porcelain tile is much denser than ceramic, and can resist water and heat better than ceramic can. We also offer natural stone tile. Since stone is quarried from different locations, no two slabs are alike which gives your home a unique look.
Not all tiles are made the same, so knowing where you want to install tile can help determine the type of tile you need. Wall tile and floor tile are similar but wall tile a little more limited when it comes to where you can install it. Wall tile is lighter and more absorbent so it can adhere to walls better, whereas floor tile is meant to be wear resistant and long lasting. That means you should avoid installing wall tiles on your floor, even if they look really neat. There is always a floor tile that can look just like it.
Tiles that are denser and have a high moisture resistance are ideal options for places like your bathroom and even outside as a patio or walkway. Other places you can install tile include laundry rooms, mudrooms, kitchens and entryways.
